Working off my debt

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Last Saturday Morgan and I went to Grandad's Meander house to work off some of my debt. When Mum and I laybyed my new camera i forgot until it was time to pick it up that i agreed to pay for some of it... It was hard to have the money straight away when i don't have a job so grandad agreed to lend it to me.. The other week he thought it would be a good idea for me to "work some of it off" by picking some of the olives from his olive trees... I (kind of) happily agreed...

So on Saturday Morgan i headed to Meander. On the way we called into Golden Valley (my favourite place in the world!) to check out what Nana and Papa's old house looks like now.. It is sad as it no longer looks anything like when they used to live there, as they always kept the garden lovely with nicely mowed lawns, lots of flowers etc. It was sad as the people have now let the place go.

We were cracking up though as at the top of the road where all the letterboxes are sitting lined in a row the box to number 12 still says "Ingle" and is the box that Papa put there years and years ago. We thought the people would have put their own letterbox in but it was nice to see something that was the same.

We got to Grandad's and found some buckets and all the other stuff we needed and headed to the olive paddock... Where Morgan proceeded to experience her first kiss!! Haha!

I had a mini freak out when we got to the bottom of the hill as Grandad had said the olive trees are the ones lining the driveway .. I thought he meant all these ones!!!

Luckily they were the ones on the OTHER side!! I was very pleased!

We were so confused about what olives to pick. Grandad said there were two types and to only pick the bigger ones.. To be honest they all looked the same to us!! We managed to get about a bucket full of ripe ones.. At one point i got excited and accidentally kicked the bucket over spilling all the picked olives!!

After we pick them up Morgan proceeds to exclaim that there are some big ones on the next tree and run over to it- kicking the bucket over for a second time!!!

We climbed a fence to get into the olive paddock (realising after we did this that there was a gate) ...
Yes it is imperative to be dressed like a bogan when doing this kind of work!

I said to Morgan; "I wonder what is in that white box?" knowing full well that it was filled with bees as Grandad's apprentice was stung something like 25 times the week before. I told her to look what was inside (not thinking she would!) ...
I stopped her when it got to this point (I would've stopped her earlier but i was fiddling with camera settings) ... And i didn't think she would be so gullible!!!

In the paddock down the bottom that Grandad used to own a sign on the shed was cracking me up, it said: "no cattle on property" when there was clearly about 7 cows a little further down the hill!! Haha :)

Morgan was a big help as she is way stronger than me.. so she did the heavy lifting of the bags of horse poo and pee straw...
She was enjoying it and bagging me out for being so weak ....

.... until something bad happened!!! Haha!

(Lisa King- you would've been proud of me here, i took your advice and wasn't afraid to 'get down low' and was literally laying in horse poo and mud to get this photo!!!!)

I was taking a photo of Morgan doing the heavy lifting when the wheelbarrow started to tip. She was yelling out to me to help her stop it falling but i was too busy laughing and taking photos to help! Sorry Morgan :)

I spread the horse poo around the bottom of the trees (theres a sentence i don't want to be saying again anytime soon ;)
While Morgan put the pee straw on top...

We didn't get very much done and it started to rain so we had to pack it all up and head home...

The hill was steeper than it looks !!!! ;)

I didn't actually mind it, i miss being out in the country now that i am in town so much. The air is just so much better and makes you feel great!
It was actually a pretty good way to pay of a bit of my camera rather than having to take it out of what little money i get. And it was actually quite fun! (despite the poo splashing up and hitting my face when shoveling some under a tree! :)
