Lap It Up

Sunday, August 29, 2010

This Thursday and Friday is our major fundraiser for grade 12. It is called Lap it up. It is a 24 hour triathlon, where we ride, run and swim for 24 hours...
I am rostered on 11pm til 2am: running, riding then running again. And an hour in my religion class, and an hour officiating after school one day..

We are raising money for the Eddie Rice school in Arusha Tanzania.. (the same organisation i do eddie rice camps with)

I am wondering if anyone out there wants to sponsor me?? Even sponsors of $2 are appreciated... It's for a great cause, let me know :)

Going grey

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

This morning while i was straightening my hair (with my brand new FREE ghd straightener btw)... Something bad happened!!!

I found a grey hair!!!!!! And i am not even joking! I knew people wouldn't believe me so i took a picture to prove it!! After ripping the first one out i discovered another one right beside it!!!!
Isn't there a saying about removing one grey hair and five coming in it's place????

After taking a picture, i looked again and there were another 4!!!!
I was freaking out! I texted mum and she said "Ha ha" .. Thanks mum!!!
I am a bit worried as everyone on mum's side of the family go grey VERY early! My Papa (my great grandad) started going grey at 18.. There are things about Papa that i love and would like to be like- but this isn't one of them!!!!!!

This is the start of many many years of dying my hair to come!!! Because if i don't- i don't ever see myself getting a boyfriend with hair like a granny!!!!!! :( :( :(

How I stay positive

Friday, August 20, 2010

I have realised that my post about copping flak was quite depressing and not at all me, and that i bummed out and concerned a few people...

I made school seem like a totally horrible place that i hate to be at every day, and can't wait to leave... BUT- there are of course things and people that i absolutely love to pieces at St Patrick's College that i am going to be VERY sad to be leaving behind. Especially some very amazing teachers who have become even more amazing friends. But i will be doing some more posts later on about these things- so stay tuned!! :)

Some days i wake up and don't want to get out of bed (we all have these days!!).. I know that i will be going to school and may have to face a lot of crap. Some days i feel confident and ready to face it with no problem.. Other days it is harder. That is why on the wall directly above my bed i have this:

A little reminder to myself to make the most of every day and to have FUN! I really do believe that "the most wasted of days is one without laughter" (my favourite quotation EVER- by e.e.cummings) It reminds me to be HAPPY and to have lots of fun because soon things will be changing and be totally different. And i want to make the most of what i have now as i'm not sure i can face all of that just yet!!!!!

The super cool print that you see above was created by my awesome friend Leanne! I feel special because she knew it was my favourite quotation and made the one above just for me :)
If you want a copy of this print, or any of her other super cool designs (they are awesome!!!) i suggest you head over to my other friend Toni's blog where you can download and print them for free!

I am not usually so negative, and i am not sure where that came from in my copping flak post! I much prefer to be happy and positive and have fun! :)

Working off my debt

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Last Saturday Morgan and I went to Grandad's Meander house to work off some of my debt. When Mum and I laybyed my new camera i forgot until it was time to pick it up that i agreed to pay for some of it... It was hard to have the money straight away when i don't have a job so grandad agreed to lend it to me.. The other week he thought it would be a good idea for me to "work some of it off" by picking some of the olives from his olive trees... I (kind of) happily agreed...

So on Saturday Morgan i headed to Meander. On the way we called into Golden Valley (my favourite place in the world!) to check out what Nana and Papa's old house looks like now.. It is sad as it no longer looks anything like when they used to live there, as they always kept the garden lovely with nicely mowed lawns, lots of flowers etc. It was sad as the people have now let the place go.

We were cracking up though as at the top of the road where all the letterboxes are sitting lined in a row the box to number 12 still says "Ingle" and is the box that Papa put there years and years ago. We thought the people would have put their own letterbox in but it was nice to see something that was the same.

We got to Grandad's and found some buckets and all the other stuff we needed and headed to the olive paddock... Where Morgan proceeded to experience her first kiss!! Haha!

I had a mini freak out when we got to the bottom of the hill as Grandad had said the olive trees are the ones lining the driveway .. I thought he meant all these ones!!!

Luckily they were the ones on the OTHER side!! I was very pleased!

We were so confused about what olives to pick. Grandad said there were two types and to only pick the bigger ones.. To be honest they all looked the same to us!! We managed to get about a bucket full of ripe ones.. At one point i got excited and accidentally kicked the bucket over spilling all the picked olives!!

After we pick them up Morgan proceeds to exclaim that there are some big ones on the next tree and run over to it- kicking the bucket over for a second time!!!

We climbed a fence to get into the olive paddock (realising after we did this that there was a gate) ...
Yes it is imperative to be dressed like a bogan when doing this kind of work!

I said to Morgan; "I wonder what is in that white box?" knowing full well that it was filled with bees as Grandad's apprentice was stung something like 25 times the week before. I told her to look what was inside (not thinking she would!) ...
I stopped her when it got to this point (I would've stopped her earlier but i was fiddling with camera settings) ... And i didn't think she would be so gullible!!!

In the paddock down the bottom that Grandad used to own a sign on the shed was cracking me up, it said: "no cattle on property" when there was clearly about 7 cows a little further down the hill!! Haha :)

Morgan was a big help as she is way stronger than me.. so she did the heavy lifting of the bags of horse poo and pee straw...
She was enjoying it and bagging me out for being so weak ....

.... until something bad happened!!! Haha!

(Lisa King- you would've been proud of me here, i took your advice and wasn't afraid to 'get down low' and was literally laying in horse poo and mud to get this photo!!!!)

I was taking a photo of Morgan doing the heavy lifting when the wheelbarrow started to tip. She was yelling out to me to help her stop it falling but i was too busy laughing and taking photos to help! Sorry Morgan :)

I spread the horse poo around the bottom of the trees (theres a sentence i don't want to be saying again anytime soon ;)
While Morgan put the pee straw on top...

We didn't get very much done and it started to rain so we had to pack it all up and head home...

The hill was steeper than it looks !!!! ;)

I didn't actually mind it, i miss being out in the country now that i am in town so much. The air is just so much better and makes you feel great!
It was actually a pretty good way to pay of a bit of my camera rather than having to take it out of what little money i get. And it was actually quite fun! (despite the poo splashing up and hitting my face when shoveling some under a tree! :)

Copping Flak

Sunday, August 8, 2010

*Don't worry this isn't going to be a post with me complaining the whole time!*

It has taken me a while to blog this because i don't want to sound like i am complaining or whineing or sooking. But i want to share it with you.

I have been copping a LOT of flak at school lately, and to be honest i am totally OVER it! I have really had enough now.

I am very over people making fun of me for my beliefs. What's up with that?
So what, i am an eighteen year old who believes in something, and someone who tries hard to live my life sticking to these beliefs. It would be fair to say that these beliefs guide me in how i act and have changed me from the person i used to be to the person i am now.

What gives another person the right to make fun of someone for something they believe in? The real question should be: "Why would you?" ... Why make fun of someone in the first place? What is the point? To make yourself feel good? To make the other person feel bad?

Either way- i think it is pointless and stupid. I don't enjoy being made fun of or "picked on" and truly thought that by 18 years old people would be mature enough not to. But sadly not. I hope these people grow up soon and get over themselves.

As for me: I know what i believe in and I know the kind of person i want to be. I would never make fun of someone for something they believe in (or for anything!- we are all children of God) ... It used to hurt me that people would do it, but now i just feel sorry for them. I used to get really upset and cry about it, but it isn't going to be forever. I only have to put up with this rubbish for what is considered a small moment in the eternities.

I also remembered important scriptures- most of them from my favourite book ever.

D&C 121: 8 And then, if thou aendure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy bfoes.

This one makes me feel better:

10 And blessed are all they who are apersecuted for my name’s sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

I am so sick of it. You would think in a college where people in my grade are 17/18 years old that they would be old enough and mature enough to treat everyone equally.

It doesn't bother me like it used to- BUT i am VERY tired of it.. It makes me exhausted to think about it... I am so over being in that kind of environment, and i am counting down the 50 days until i never have to see them again.

And as for what i say back to them?? Nothing. I don't want to cause trouble or arguments. There is no point in those sorts of reactions. Instead i remember this:

3 Ne. 12:44 But behold I say unto you, love your aenemies, bless them that curse you, do bgood to them that hate you, and cpray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you;

I know this kind of thing is nothing to others who have bigger or different trials, but this is one of the big ones in my life at the moment, while i am at this age. I am hoping it doesn't last. I am also very grateful for all that i have and know. I am very blessed :)

Writers' Cafe

Friday, August 6, 2010

One of the subjects i do this year is English Writing...

My teacher is Mrs Slevec. Friday afternoon classes are always a drag, and not really much fun. Because of the way our timetables work at our school we have a two week cycle so we only have an afternoon lesson once a fortnight.
This Friday she had the brilliant idea of having a writers' cafe, to make it a bit more enjoyable.

She brought along her coffee machine, hot chocolate and some treats...

In PC that day (an hour of activities with your house group) we had played minute to win it, and my tutor teacher Ms Owers gave us the left over balloons to take to the cafe. We had fun playing with them :)

Of course we were also doing our work while drinking our hot drinks! ... Or thinking about doing our work!!

Mrs Slevec was a very good cafe worker making coffees for those who wanted them.

She even brought along marshmellows for the hot chocolates...

It was very yummy and a really good idea! I think everyone will agree that the class worked better than ever, especially for a Friday afternoon!

Thanks Mrs Slevec, you are a legend!

It was lots of fun, and we really appreciate it :)
